At Primma Wellness, we know that starting a new injectable medication can feel intimidating. Whether you're using a GLP-1 therapy or another wellness treatment, self-injection is a safe and effective way to stay consistent with your health plan. The key is preparation, calm focus, and understanding each step before you begin.

    1. Gather and Prepare

Before you start, take a moment to organize your supplies and get comfortable.

    You'll need:

    • Your prescribed medication vial
    • An insulin syringe (with an orange safety cap)
    • Alcohol swabs
    • A sharps container for safe disposal

Tip: Always double-check your medication name and dosage label before proceeding.

    2. Choose Your Injection Site

You have two main options for subcutaneous injections:

    • Abdomen: At least 2 inches away from your belly button
    • Front or outer thigh: Avoid the inner thigh

Both areas have a small layer of fatty tissue, making injections gentle and effective.

    3. Clean and Draw Your Dose

    1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
    2. Remove the vial's plastic cap and clean the rubber top with an alcohol swab.
    3. Let it dry completely.
    4. Pull air into your syringe equal to your prescribed dose.
    5. Insert the needle into the vial's top, push the air in, and turn the vial upside down.
    6. Gently draw past your dose, tap to remove air bubbles, and push back to your exact mark.

Inject right away. If you can't inject immediately, discard and draw a fresh dose next time.

    4. Administer Your Injection

    1. Clean the skin at your chosen site and let it dry.
    2. Pinch the area between your fingers.
    3. Hold the syringe like a dart and insert it at a 90° angle.
    4. Inject slowly and steadily.
    5. Withdraw gently and press a clean swab to the site — but don't rub.

    5. Dispose Safely

Place your used syringe immediately into a sharps container. Never reuse or recap your needles. When your sharps container is full, follow your pharmacy or local disposal program's instructions for return.
